High Strain Steel Wire

High-strain steel wire
High-strain wire is used for straining fence lines, building strong plain-wire farm fences and reinforcing mesh or netting fences. It holds its tension over long runs with less sagging than standard soft wire.

Diameter: 2.24 mm
Coatings: Class C standard galvanised for general inland use, or Class A heavy galvanised for longer life in coastal and high-moisture areas
Roll size: 1,650 m roll, ±50 kg

Compare WFSA product tiers and specifications

WFSA product tiers: Mzansi / Econo and specified ranges

The WFSA Mzansi / Econo range is a commercial-value range for selected price-sensitive, general-purpose, retail, hardware-store and lower-load applications where a project-specific certified or warranted specification is not required. Select it for the intended use; it is not an automatic substitute for heavier-duty, fully specified or standards-compliant material.

Depending on the product, differences can include actual wire diameter, coating level, mass, steel content and manufacturing tolerance. Compare the individual specifications rather than height, mesh opening or purchase price alone.

Product tierPurposeWhat to check
Mzansi / EconoSelected price-sensitive and general-purpose applicationsActual diameter, coating, mass, intended use and warranty status
Standard WFSA rangeGeneral agricultural and commercial use appropriate to the productThe stated individual product specification
Specified / Heavy / Compliant rangeProjects requiring a defined technical specificationExact diameter, tensile properties, coating, standard and certification required; a range label alone is not certification

Unless specifically stated otherwise, economy / VL / LD products are not supplied with a general warranty on service life or long-term performance. This does not exclude statutory consumer rights where applicable. Read the WFSA terms and conditions and confirm any product-specific warranty before ordering. Do not use economy material as a substitute for a required structural or certified specification.

Diameter, coating, tensile strength and coil mass are separate specifications. A heavier diameter does not prove heavier galvanizing. Select coating for exposure and required service life; coating selection depends on the actual exposure and required service life. Read wire specifications and coating guidance.
